Thattekere, a small village, after Ragihalli is another spot for bird watching. Our idea was to celebrate one of our friends’ Birthday and cover the stretch of Ragihalli up to Thattekere. In most of our visits to Ragihalli, we used to go till the village and come back. But this time, we went ahead and crossed a small water pool(yes, this is how the road is meant to be… else you need to take a longer route) and reached Thattekere. While crossing Ragihalli, we spotted lots of birds. A common tailorbird which comes into the Prinia family and pair of spotted Owlets.
Advantage of so many visits of Ragihalli is that we have come to know the Kingfisher spot. Don’t know how much true, but Kingfishers can be spotted at the same location. At least in Ragihalli, we have hit ratio of 1:1. A lovely female Parakeet, we spotted.
Crossing the stretch of Ragihalli, first time we spotted a Brahminy Starling, a small and a beautiful bird. Bushlark was also screaming loudly in the morning.
Further ahead we also spotted lots of Black Drongos, Indian Robins and Bushlarks. further a pair of Red rumped Swallows sitting on wire caught our attention.

super alignment ka…. loved it …. Indian Robin Female pic rocks
this looks like an awesome place. Lovely photographs.
Amit, I will suggest you this place.. Noticeable bird places:
1. Before the entrance gate of Ragihalli Road, there is a place on right hand side… quite a open land… (left of which is a road and a house) – Quick check of birds there.
2. That full stretch of Ragihalli Road from Entrance Gate to Exit Gate is cool… thought after the Exit gate, there is a flower land(farm land) on right hand side, just before the village starts. Check out little deep in that road. Kingfisher(White throated, Pied, Parakeet).. and many other birds can be sighted there.
3. Road from Ragihalli upto the place where Priyanka has written you have to cross water stream, that full place is heaven(time around 8.00 AM).
4. Thattekere lake is a big one .. we have almost roam around 1.5 to 2 Km that day. And when you reach to this lake, you will find a temple and just after temple, you can view the lake… initially you will think that other side is not reachable, but it is .. how ? You need to find out 😛
Thanks for the detailed info. Will surely try this place some weekend.
Hi Vaibhav, I dont see Priyanka’s post. can you please tell me Ragihalli to which place there is a cross water stream. Your reply wud be much appreciated as I am planning for a visit next week. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Thanks for the info. Just visited Ragihalli and Thattekere lake. Unfortunately Thattekere lake is now guarded by forest officials and I was not allowed to shoot there. They said wild elephants are frequenting the lake and one need to have permission from sate forest department to go there for photography. However I had been to that lake earlier and had a great time photographing the birds. Debjit
Hi Vaibbhav/ Debjit Das,
Which is the best month to visit this place ? Is it fine to travel this weekend or the next ?
Debjit, did you spot any birds during the september visit ? Could you post some of the pictures !
Thanks,
Prabu.T

Dear Birder,
Your photos and birding interest is much appreciated. But disappointing to know about the birth day celebration at such spots.
Take care of your nature.. .

Hi,
The birthday celebration was done keeping in mind we do no harm to nature. Actually uing the word celebration is a little misleading. We basically cut a water melon intead of the regular birthday cake, wished Prathima and continued with our regular stuff. That’s what she meant by “celebrating my bday in different way”.
Sushil
