Black Crowned Night Heron – Saw Subbu Sir mail on bngbirds group “On Sunday TV9 Kannada Channel beamed a news item on a nesting colony of Night Herons and cormorants at the Sri Rama temple in Kathriguppe”, I decided to go and have a look. As Priyanka already viewed that place, so it was easy for me to locate it.

Today morning around 9.30 AM, we reached to Sri Rama Temple and saw lots of nest on a single long tree. Local people have idea that these birds come here for around 6 months.Rainy season and darkness of dense tree created problems while taking snaps but who care. I loved to see them in our city. You will also love to hear the continuous sound of the small babies over that tree.

Night heron is a water bird and what they are doing so far from Lake, as this place don’t have any lake near 1 km or so. If I will ask this question to the priest, he will say “prabhu ke maaya”(wish of God) but in the meanwhile, I saw one night heron(a mother or a father, as from size) flew away and she has not come back in 20 minutes of our stay. Very clear, that she went to bring food from a far lake or so. Why they have made home here, I didn’t understood .. its a matter of happiness or a matter of worry. What I know/read about birds is that their first priority is food and then comes rest. So, there must be some reason that they decided to make their nest so far. Are our lakes not providing suitable condition for them.
